Recent Updates
- Added that area abilities never hit allies or players in safe zones.
The skill bar is the tool you'll use most while fighting in MyShard. This page explains the slots, how to set up your abilities and how targeting works.
Slots
| Key | Contents | Comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Q, W, E | Weapon abilities | The weapon you wield |
| R, D, F | Armor abilities | The armor set you wear |
| X | Extra ability | Only some weapons (e.g. the Wild Staff); otherwise the slot is hidden |
| 1, 2, 3 | Quick slots | Food and potions you put there |
Empty weapon slots show a sword, empty armor slots show a piece of armor.
Setting up your abilities
Aweakings is the system where you choose the abilities on your skill bar. It has two parts: Weapon Aweakings, where you choose your weapon's Q, W, E abilities, and Armor Aweakings, where you choose your armor set's R, D, F abilities. Two players with the same weapon or set can play completely differently with different Aweakings picks.
Weapon Aweakings
- Each weapon has several (up to 4) ability options in its Q, W and E rows.
- You pick one ability from each row; it goes on that key.
- When you equip a weapon, the first ability of each row is placed automatically.
- Weapon abilities cost mana.
- Some weapons have an extra X ability (e.g. the Wild Staff).
Each weapon's abilities are on its own page: Daisho, Dagger, Long Spear, Halberd, Maul, Heavy Crossbow, Spellbook, Wild Staff.
Armor Aweakings
- Each armor group (Platemail, Leather, Cloth) has 12 abilities split into three rows: R (1–4), D (5–8), F (9–12).
- You pick one ability from each row. You can only pick abilities of the group you're wearing.
- The first ability of each row (1, 5 and 9) is open from the start. The others are locked and show a lock icon in the window.
- Armor abilities cost no mana; they cost charge.
All 36 armor abilities: Armor Sets and Roles.
Charge
- Each armor group has its own charge: Platemail, Leather and Cloth charge are independent.
- Every armor ability spends 1 charge of the group you're wearing.
- Your current charge is shown in the Armor Aweakings window; each ability's charge cost is shown in its tooltip.
- Without enough charge, the ability is greyed out on the skill bar and can't be used.
Earning charge and unlocking abilities
How to earn charge and unlock the locked armor abilities will be shared on this page very soon.
You can't change abilities during combat. When you change your armor set, the R, D, F slots are refilled with the new group's basic abilities.
Using abilities
Press the key or click the icon to use an ability. The icon shows you the ability's state:
| Look | Meaning |
|---|---|
| A sweeping shadow and a number | Cooldown; the seconds left are shown. |
| A short flash | The cooldown is over; the ability is ready. |
| A faded icon | You don't have enough mana or charge. |
| Purple colour | You're silenced and can't use abilities. |
| A softly glowing icon | A toggle ability is on; if it's timed, its border shrinks with the time left. |
- Pressing an ability you can't use plays an error sound.
- You can't start another ability while one is being cast; as soon as the cast ends you can use the next one.
- Hover over an icon to see the ability's description, mana and charge cost, range, cooldown and cast time.
Selecting a target
- Single-click a character to select it as your target. The bars above your selected target are drawn bigger and glowing, and the target frame opens on screen.
- A selects the next enemy, Alt + A the nearest enemy.
- Space starts a normal attack on your selected target.
How abilities find their target
Harmful abilities
- If you have an enemy selected and it's in range, the ability goes to it automatically; no extra click needed.
- If your selected enemy is out of range, a red Target out of range warning appears below your character and the ability isn't used.
- If you have no target selected, a target cursor appears; click whoever you want to target.
Healing and support abilities
- They can only be used on allies (party and guild members). If your selected target is an enemy, you'll see "Only allies can be targeted".
- Press the key together with Alt (like Alt + Q) to use the ability on yourself without a target prompt.
Area abilities
Area abilities are aimed at the ground. While aiming, the ability's area and range are shown in colour on the ground:
- Red: harmful ability
- Green: healing or buffing ability
- Blue: protective ability
If you aim at a spot outside your line of sight, the spot turns red and the ability can't be used there.
Harmful area abilities never hit your allies (guild, allied guilds, party and Arena team) or players in safe zones.
You can choose how area abilities work in the options:
| Mode | How it works |
|---|---|
| Click to place | Shows the area; click to use it there. |
| Quick cast (instant) | Uses it at your cursor as soon as you press the key. |
| Quick cast + indicator | Casts quickly but still shows the area. |
Range and line of sight
- Every ability's range is shown in its tooltip. If the target or the spot you aim at is further away, the ability isn't used.
- If a wall or obstacle blocks your view of the target, the ability can't be used. You can cast through windows.
- Some lasting effects (such as channelled abilities) re-check range and line of sight while they run; if the target moves away or out of sight, the effect ends.
Quick slots
- Only food and potions can go in slots 1, 2, 3; nothing else fits.
- The slot shows how many you have in your backpack.
- Heal and Mana potions share the potion cooldown. See Introduction to Combat.
Customising the bar
From the bar's settings icon you can:
- Bar Model: default or mobile look
- Move all bars together or one by one
- Move the cast bar and the Cooldown Assistant
- Lock the bars
You can change ability keys in the options window. With the Cooldown Assistant turned on, you're told on screen when an ability is ready (it's off by default). Other interface elements: Game Interface.
Tips
- Selecting an enemy and chaining your abilities is much faster than clicking the target every time.
- Make Alt a habit for healing abilities; you won't need to switch targets to heal yourself.
- In crowded fights, Quick cast + indicator is both fast and safe for area abilities.
