Gathering is the foundation of MyShard's economy. You gather Ingot, Log, Cotton and Hide from resources in the world and use them to craft your own weapons, sets and tools, or sell them to other players. Each resource type is its own mastery and grows as you gather.

Every resource you gather also gives experience to the related profession. See Crafting.

Tier and level

Every resource has a tier and a level:

  • Tier: Normal, Ruin, Might, Force, Power, Epic. It's in the resource's name (e.g. Force Rock) and sets the tier of the material it gives.
  • Level: I to V (Ruin – Epic resources only), shown by the dots under the resource (●●●○○ = level 3). Higher level resources give much more experience and more valuable materials.

A resource's level is rolled when it spawns: levels I and II about 38% each, level III 20%, levels IV and V 2% each.

Normal resources

Normal resources are for new players: they need no tool, have no level and give plain materials (Iron Ingot, Log, Cotton, Hide). You craft Normal weapons, sets and items from these materials.

Where to gather

Resource rings match the hunting areas:

TierArea
NormalFarms around Britain
RuinBritain's northern forest and mines, Infernal
MightAround Yew and Minoc
ForceDestard, Shame, the swamps
PowerFire, Ice, Hythloth
EpicLost Lands

Gathering tools

You don't hold a tool to gather; you add it to the Gathering Equipment window. Normal resources need no tool; each of the Ruin – Epic tiers has its own tool:

ToolRecipe (Carpentry)
Ruin Gather Tool16 Ruin Log + 8 Ruin Ingot
Might Gather Tool16 Might Log + 8 Might Ingot
Force Gather Tool16 Force Log + 8 Force Ingot
Power Gather Tool16 Power Log + 8 Power Ingot + 15 Dark Wood
Epic Gather Tool16 Epic Log + 8 Epic Ingot + 20 Dark Wood
  • Tools are crafted with Carpentry; your Carpentry mastery must reach the tool's tier.
  • A tool added to the window loads that tier's slot with 200 uses; each gather uses 1. You can't add a new one until the slot is empty.
  • To gather a resource you need that tier's tool. The only exception: level I resources of the next tier can also be gathered with the tier below's tool. That's why Ruin I resources need no tool either.
  • Without the right tool you'll see a warning like "For this you need to equip Force Gather Tool."

How to gather

  1. Get within 2 tiles of the resource and double-click it.
  2. Gathering starts and a progress bar fills; it takes a few seconds. Moving more than 2 tiles away cancels it.
  3. When the bar is full, the material goes to your backpack and the resource is used up. Each resource can be gathered once.

Rules:

  • You can't gather while mounted.
  • Your mastery must reach the resource's tier (one tier lower is enough for level I resources). Otherwise you'll see "You don't have a sufficient gather level."

What you get

  • Materials: 3 – 5 per gather, at the resource's tier and level.
  • Experience: tier base × level multiplier. Base: Normal 10, Ruin 18, Might 30, Force 50, Power 80, Epic 120; level multiplier for I – V: 100% / 120% / 150% / 200% / 300%. A Ruin I resource gives 18, an Epic V resource 360 experience.
  • Profession experience: 25% of the gathering experience you earn also goes to the related profession (Blacksmithing, Carpentry, Tailoring, Leatherworking).
  • Gather Points: 106 (Normal) to 1,495 (Epic) depending on tier; shown on your profile.
  • Special materials: once your mastery is Force (4) or higher, each gather has a 5% chance of:
    ResourceSpecial material
    RockRuby
    TreeDark Wood
    Hide (corpse)Purple Hide
CottonGold Cloth, plus a chance of White Cloth
You need these materials for gathering equipment and higher tier tools.

Gathering hides

Hides come from gathering creatures in the world. Kill the creature, then double-click its corpse to gather; the same tool and mastery rules apply. Normal Deer and Normal Rabbit give plain Hide without a tool.

When you kill Ruin – Epic creatures, there's a 10% chance a pub (a young animal) drops into your backpack. You can raise pubs on your own island. See Island and Farm.

Gathering Equipment

The Virtue button on your paperdoll opens the Gathering Equipment window. It has 5 tool slots (Ruin – Epic) and 6 equipment slots. Press Add Equipment and pick an item from your backpack to load it into its slot.

  • Every item loads its slot with 200 uses. Head, Shoe, Tunic and Ring use 1 per gather; Earring and Necklace use 1 per craft.
  • Head, Shoe and Tunic also count the damage you take; at 1,000,000 damage the slot empties.
  • You can't add a new item to a slot until it's used up.
  • Crafting gathering equipment needs Power (5) mastery in the profession. See Crafting.

Gathering mastery

Each resource type's mastery grows separately. Experience needed for the next level:

LevelTo next level
Normal (1) → Ruin (2)750
Ruin (2) → Might (3)4,000
Might (3) → Force (4)13,500
Force (4) → Power (5)45,000
Power (5) → Epic (6)120,000

Track your progress on the Gathering tab of the Mastery Book. More in Levels and Experience.

Tips

  • If you're new, start with the Normal resources on Britain's farms; they need no tool and your mastery reaches Ruin quickly.
  • Don't skip level III and higher resources; they give 1.5 – 3 times the experience of a level I resource.
  • Once you reach Force mastery, special materials start dropping; use Ruby, Dark Wood, Purple Hide and Gold Cloth to craft your gathering equipment.
  • As first equipment, the Gather Tunic (speed) or Gather Ring (experience) save you the most time.
