How experience is earned and what changes when you level up.

  1. Added 6 mastery levels (Normal–Epic), the four threshold tables (weapon/armor, gathering, profession, fishing), kill EXP by creature level with the level-difference table, gathering/craft/fishing EXP and the mastery needed per tier.

In MyShard your character doesn't have a single level. Instead, you master everything you do separately: every weapon you use, every armor group you wear, every resource you gather and every profession you practise has its own level. The more you use something, the better you master it.

Mastery levels

Every mastery has 6 levels. The level names match the item tiers:

LevelName
1Normal
2Ruin
3Might
4Force
5Power
6Epic

Every mastery starts at level 1 (Normal). Once you reach level 6 (Epic), that mastery is complete. Characters who had masteries before the Normal tier was added had all of them moved up one level once, so your old Ruin mastery now shows as Ruin (2).

Mastery types

TypeMasteriesHow it grows
WeaponsDaisho, Dagger, Long Spear, Halberd, Maul, Heavy Crossbow, Spellbook, Wild StaffKilling creatures with the weapon equipped

ProfessionsBlacksmithing, Tailoring, Leatherworking, Carpentry (Crafting), Fishing (Fishing)Crafting items, gathering resources and catching fish

Experience needed for the next level

Each type uses its own threshold table:

LevelWeapon and armorGatheringProfessionsFishing
1 → 2 (Normal → Ruin)5,0007501,2004,000
2 → 3 (Ruin → Might)22,0004,0003,6008,000
3 → 4 (Might → Force)68,00013,50010,80016,000
4 → 5 (Force → Power)185,00045,00030,80032,000
5 → 6 (Power → Epic)500,000120,00072,00048,000

Experience beyond a level carries over to the next one; nothing is wasted.

Combat experience

When you kill a creature, the experience you earn goes to two places at once:

  • The mastery of the weapon you have equipped
  • The group of the armor set you are wearing (Platemail, Leather or Cloth)

The experience you earn shows above your character as +Exp. It depends on the creature's level:

Creature levelExperience
1 Normal (rabbit, chicken, rat, pig, sheep, mongbat, slime…)20
2 Ruin40
3 Might75
4 Force130
5 Power220
6 Epic360

This value changes with the difference between the creature's level and the mastery level of the weapon you have equipped:

The creature is…Experience you get
Higher level than you125%
The same level100%
1 level lower50%
2 levels lower20%
3 or more levels lower5%

For example, with a Ruin mastery Daisho you get 75 × 125% ≈ 93 experience for a Might creature, but only 20 × 50% = 10 for a Normal rabbit. Moving on to tougher areas as you level speeds up your progress.

Items with Exp Bonus increase the combat experience you earn by a percentage; it's listed in the item's properties.

Gathering experience

Each resource type (Rock, Cotton, Hides, Logs) is its own mastery and grows as you gather it. The experience from each gather depends on the node's tier and sub-level:

TierNormalRuinMightForcePowerEpic
Base experience1018305080120

Sub-level multiplier: I 100%, II 120%, III 150%, IV 200%, V 300%. 25% of your gathering experience also goes to the linked profession (e.g. gathering Rock also improves Blacksmithing). More in Gathering.

Profession experience

Every craft gives experience based on the tier of the item you make:

TierNormalRuinMightForcePowerEpic
Experience per craft3060120220360520

While Gather Rune V is equipped, crafting experience is increased by 50%. Fishing mastery gains 25 experience per catch. More in Crafting and Fishing.

What levels are for

Your mastery level decides which item tiers you can use:

Item tierNormalRuinMightForcePowerEpic
Mastery level needed—23456
  • To equip a weapon, your mastery in that weapon type must have reached the weapon's tier. For example, a Force tier Daisho needs Daisho mastery of at least 4 (Force).
  • To wear an armor set, your mastery in that armor group must have reached the set's tier.
  • If your level is too low, you'll see "Your weapon level is not sufficient for this." or "Your armor level is not sufficient for this."

So as you master a weapon, you can move on to its stronger versions. Anyone can use Normal tier items. Crafting follows the same rule: to craft an item of a tier, the matching profession mastery must have reached that tier.

Mastery Book

You can see all your masteries in the Mastery Book, opened with the Experience button on the top bar. It has four tabs: Arms, Armor, Gathering and Professions.

  • Each mastery shows its level name, your current experience and how much is left to the next level.
  • A progress bar shows how much of the level you've completed.
  • Masteries that reach level 6 show Mastery complete.
  • On the Professions tab, the arrow next to each profession opens its crafting menu.

Tips

  • If you switch weapons, you start the new weapon's mastery from scratch. Focusing on one weapon early on gets you further faster.
  • Armor experience is only earned while the set is worn. Sets can't be changed during combat.
  • Hunting creatures far below your level gives almost no experience; as your mastery grows, move on to the next tier's hunting grounds.
  • Combat, gathering and professions progress independently; when you're tired of fighting, gathering still makes you stronger.
