You've created your character and you're in Britannia. This page walks you through your first hours, from graduating the tutorial area to Britain up to your first big goal, the Ruin tier. If you don't have an account yet, start with Account and Setup.

You start ready to play

Whichever city you pick at character creation, your new character is born in the tutorial area called Start Area. It is a safe zone: players cannot target each other, and you can only attack the training dummies and the creatures in the hunting pit.

  • Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence: 100 / 100 / 100
  • Health: 900, Mana: 500, Stamina: 500
  • The basic abilities of every armor group (Platemail, Leather, Cloth) are unlocked.
  • Two horse costumes are added to your mount costume collection.

Waiting in your backpack:

  • New Player Gift: your free starting weapon and armor set.
  • Newbie Young certificate: shows the time left on your newbie protection.
  • 1,000 gold for your first needs.

The tutorial: 7 steps to Britain

The tutorial window on the left of your screen shows your next step and your progress (e.g. 4 / 10). The steps are laid out from south to north across the Start Area; when you finish one, the window moves on to the next by itself.

StepWhat you doReward
1. WelcomeTalk to the Guide: walk up and double-click him, or say something to him. He explains movement, the interface and chat; the Got it button completes the step.—
2. ArmoryDouble-click the New Player Gift in your backpack and choose one Normal weapon and one Normal set.The weapon and set you chose
3. Training YardEquip your weapon and use 3 different abilities next to the Combat Dummies (Q/W/E or R/D/F).5 Lesser Heal Potion
4. Hunting PitKill 10 Normal creatures (rabbits, chickens…) in the hunting pit.2,000 gold
5. Resource GardenGather resources 5 times by double-clicking Normal Rock, Normal Tree and Normal Cotton nodes. Normal nodes need no tool.Ruin Gather Tool
6. WorkshopDouble-click a station (Blacksmith Station, Tailor, Leather Tool, Carpentry Toolkit) and craft one Normal item.—
7. MoongateDouble-click the Tutorial Moongate in the north to travel to Britain.Graduation
  • The Moongate won't let you through until the earlier steps are done. It also can't be used during Combat Time.
  • Add the Ruin Gather Tool in the Gathering Equipment window (opened with the Virtue button) and you can gather Ruin resource nodes too.
  • Already know the game? Confirm Skip tutorial in the tutorial window: any rewards you haven't received yet (5 Lesser Heal Potion, 2,000 gold, Ruin Gather Tool) are given and you are sent straight to Britain. You can't skip during combat.

Choose your weapon and set

In the New Player Gift window you pick 1 of 8 weapons and 1 of 3 armor sets for free; both are placed in your backpack. The weapon is your class, the set is your role.

WeaponsArmor sets
Melee: Daisho, Dagger, Long Spear, Halberd, MaulCloth, Leather or Platemail. See Armor Sets and Roles for the differences.
Ranged and magic: Heavy Crossbow, Spellbook, Wild Staff

The gift items are Normal tier, the first of six tiers (Normal, Ruin, Might, Force, Power, Epic). Normal items need no mastery. If you can't decide, look at the abilities on the weapon pages: in MyShard, your weapon decides what you can do.

Equip and pick your abilities

  1. Equip your weapon and put on your set (double-click the set in your backpack). Armor group abilities work while the set is worn.
  2. Use the Weapon Aweakings button next to the skill bar to place weapon abilities in the Q, W, E slots.
  3. Use the Armor Aweakings button to place armor abilities in the R, D, F slots.

You can't change abilities during combat. Learn how abilities work in Introduction to Combat, and keys and targeting in Skill Bar.

Know your newbie protection

The moment you graduate from (or skip) the tutorial, your 48-hour newbie protection starts fresh: other players can't attack you and you can't attack them. Time spent in the tutorial doesn't count against those 48 hours.

  • Double-click the Newbie Young certificate in your backpack to see the time left.
  • If you want to start PvP early, you can leave the protection from the same window. This cannot be undone.
  • Arena matches are not affected by the protection.

Welcome to Britain

After graduating you arrive next to the Britain Moongate. Britain is the main safe city: the bank, healer, stable, shops, crafting quarter and Moongate are all here. Britain is only unsafe during the city war held on Saturdays. More about the cities in Map and Cities.

Quest Keeper: daily quests

Double-click the Quest Keeper in front of the bank (or say "quest"). He gives you 3 quests every day, picked at random from these types: kill creatures, gather resources, craft items, catch fish. The amounts and the reward scale with your tier.

Your tierKillGatherCraftFishReward per quest
Normal1020152,000 gold
Ruin1240284,000 gold
Might15603106,000 gold
Force15803128,000 gold
Power2010041510,000 gold
Epic2012051510,000 gold
  • Your tier is your highest weapon or armor mastery. Kill quests count creatures from one tier below yours and stronger.
  • Progress is tracked automatically, but you must visit the Quest Keeper that day to receive the quests first.
  • Claim a finished quest with Claim next to the Quest Keeper; the gold goes to your bank as a check. If you forget, it is deposited automatically the next day.
  • Quests renew at midnight.

First goal: from Normal to Ruin

Every creature you kill gives experience to the weapon you have equipped and the armor group you are wearing. Levels belong to your weapon and armor group, not to your character; switch to another weapon and you level that one separately.

  • Going from Normal (1) mastery to Ruin (2) mastery takes 5,000 experience.
  • A Normal creature gives 20 experience; a Ruin creature gives 50 while you are at Normal (creatures stronger than you give 25% more).
  • Once you reach Ruin mastery you can equip Ruin tier weapons and sets. The road continues the same way: Might needs mastery level 3, Force 4, Power 5 and Epic 6.

Where to hunt? Normal creatures (rabbits, chickens, rats, pigs, sheep…) live on the farms around Britain. When you feel ready, move on to the Britain forest and mines, or take the Moongate to Infernal [New Player]; its Ruin creatures give more experience and more gold. Moongate trips to New Player and the Safe Zone are free; other city gates cost 100 gold. To use a Moongate you need full health and must not be in combat. More in Travelling by Moongate.

Track your progress in the Mastery Book, opened with the Experience button on the top bar. All thresholds and experience tables: Levels and Experience.

Collect your first achievements

The Quest button on your paperdoll opens the Achievements window. The first tasks are ideal for new players:

  • Kill 10 level 1 creatures
  • Kill 25 level 1 creatures
  • Kill 55 and 105 level 1 creatures

Achievements pay gold and reset every month. Together with the Quest Keeper's quests, they are where most of your first money comes from.

What next?

  • Tougher areas: once you reach Ruin, hunt Ruin creatures; at Might, move on to the Yew and Minoc areas.
  • Economy: produce your own materials and gear with Gathering, Crafting and Fishing.
  • Competition: feeling confident? Try your luck in the Arena.
  • Community: join a guild; progressing together is much faster.

Tips for new players

  • Out of combat, your health regenerates 150 and your mana 8 per second. Take a short break after a fight and start the next one at full health.
  • Save the 5 Lesser Heal Potions from the tutorial for your first tough fights.
  • If you run into a problem, reach us on Discord or by opening a support ticket. There is no in-game GM call.
  • Read the Server Rules once; they keep the game fun for everyone.
