Most abilities and potions apply buffs to you or your allies and debuffs to your opponents. Fights are often won by the best-timed buffs and debuffs. This page covers every effect in the game and how they combine.

Where do you see effects?

Effects are shown on the buff bar in two rows: your own effects on top and your selected target's effects below.

  • A green frame is a buff, a red frame a debuff.
  • The remaining time counts down on the icon.
  • Hover over an icon to see the effect's name, stack count, who applied it and the time left.

Stun, Silence, Slow and Attack Speed Slow count as crowd control; crowd control immunity blocks them.

How effects combine

  • Damage, defense and speed buffs from different sources add up. For example, +20% damage from an ability and +15% from a potion make +35% in total.
  • Some buffs stack when the same ability applies them again; the Stack count on the icon goes up. Others don't stack when reapplied; only their duration is refreshed. The ability's description tells you which.
  • The total can't exceed the effect's limit: damage bonus up to 100%, damage defense up to 75%.
  • If the same Stun or Silence lands again, durations don't add up; the new duration applies if it's longer than what's left.
  • If several Slows are on you at once, only the strongest counts.

Removing effects

WayWhat it removes
Cleanse (Leather ability)Crowd control and debuffs on you and nearby allies
Cleanse Jump (Leather ability)Stun, Silence and Slow on yourself
Cleanse potionStun
Purge (Cloth ability)All buffs on the target enemy

Immunity

Some abilities and potions protect you for a short time:

SourceProtection
Spirit Protection (Cloth)4 seconds against all damage and crowd control
Defense Shield (Platemail)3 seconds against damage and crowd control
Protection (Platemail)6 seconds against crowd control for you and your allies
Resist potion4 seconds against crowd control

All armor group abilities: Armor Sets and Roles.

Tips

  • Watch your opponent's buffs in your selected target's effect row; if they pop a big damage buff, use your defensive ability right then.
  • Because buffs from different sources add up, attacking as a team is far more effective than going alone.
  • Carry an immunity or cleanse against Stun and Silence; you take the most damage while controlled.
